Letters to Sofia
A young, charming, resilient woman touches the heart of Mikalojus, an eccentric with an artistic soul. This period of his life is extremely rich for him - he paints a series of paintings, composes a symphony and constantly writes letters to Sofia - the woman who has bewitched him. Sofia, meanwhile, devotedly and passionately defends the ideas of Dr. Jonas Basanavičius, but her work in the censored newspaper "Viltis" drags her into ever deeper despair. In addition, Russian Colonel Nikolai Rostov (actor Nikolai Antonov) visits Sofia's house more and more often, introducing himself as an admirer of the young woman and a literary expert and putting pressure on her parents with direct hints. Nevertheless, Sofia decides to follow Mikalojus to St. Petersburg, where a wealthy Lithuanian Mstislav Dobužinskis (actor Andrius Bialobzhevskis) also lives. MKČiurlionis finally achieves the fame he has dreamed of after presenting his symphony on the theme of the forest in St. Petersburg. Intoxicated by praise and relaxed, he cannot resist the charm of the ladies of high society and betrays Sofia. This adventure of Nikolay infuriates Sofia. Unhappy and hurt, she returns to Vilnius. Here she meets Nikolay again, who wants to appropriate the woman he likes and makes plans to exile the dissident artist MKČiurlionis to Siberia.
