Fantastic Sounds Laboratory

Kaunas Film Center "Romuva" presents a new educational program - "Fantastic Sound Laboratory", inviting students to delve even deeper into the world of film sound.

During the education, participants will explore how film sound is created – how it creates mood, tension or even fantastic worlds. Using various instruments, electronic devices, voice and everyday objects, they will create original soundtracks for specially selected film excerpts. During practical work, the art of "foley" will also be tested – a live sound creation that allows you to reproduce both real and fantastic sounds.

The laboratory uses exceptional sound tools:

  • Otamatons are playful, voice-like instruments that allow you to create expressive, unexpected sounds and experiment with intonation.
  • The Bowie and Beat stylophones are compact electronic instruments that can be used to create both melodies and rhythms, and explore different sound effects.
  • Theremins are unique instruments played without touch - the sound is controlled by hand movements in the air, which makes it possible to create mysterious, "cosmic" moods.
  • The Pocket Operator synthesizer is a small but powerful tool that allows you to create rhythms, sound textures, and experiment with electronic music.

By working with these devices, students will not only deepen their understanding of film sound, but will also become creators themselves - creating original, fantasy-reflecting sound worlds.

The education is intended for students of all ages who want to try their hand at creativity, learn about the behind-the-scenes of filmmaking, and experience how sound is created, which makes stories come to life.
We recommend it for students in grades 1-12.
