Creative sound and light film workshops

Kaunas Film Center "Romuva" presents two brand new educational programs that invite students to immerse themselves in the secrets of filmmaking. Here, they will become not only viewers, but also creators - they will experience how seemingly simple things can turn into real cinematic magic.

Sound Workshop – When Simple Things Speak in Cinema

Have you ever wondered what creates tension in a horror movie? Why is laughter more contagious in a comedy? The sounds in a movie often come from places you wouldn't expect - from the rustling of paper, the flick of a spoon, or even the sound of a human voice.

In the "Sound Workshop", students will have the opportunity to become masters of film sound themselves: they will create a soundtrack for a film excerpt, discover the secrets of the art of "foley", learn to voice footsteps, the patter of rain, the rustle of wind or even the screams of fantastic creatures. This is not only a fun but also a creative experience, allowing you to feel that sound can change the entire mood of a film.

The education is intended for students in grades 5–9.

When sounds become fairy tales

Can a story be told with sounds alone? In this educational activity, simple sheets of paper will become storytellers of rain, wind, or forest noise. Students will create their own sound books, develop their hearing, imagination, and discover that even everyday materials hide a whole world of sounds.

It is not only a fun and unexpected experience, but also an opportunity to develop hearing, imagination and the ability to listen to the environment. Education encourages creative collaboration, the joy of discovery and opens the door to a world where even everyday materials hide an entire orchestra of sounds.

Light Laboratory – discover how light tells a story

Can light turn a simple shot into something mysterious, romantic, or scary? Yes! Light in cinema is no less important than the camera or actors – it helps create emotions, reveal a story, and even change our perception of the characters.

In the "Light Laboratory", students will become researchers and creators. They will take photos of each other, try different lighting angles and color filters, experiment with shadows and the direction of light. Even the smallest changes can completely transform a photo or film frame - and they will experience this with their own eyes.
