As important holidays for Lithuania are approaching, we have great news for you. Our friends "Skalvija" cinema center invite you on February 1st. 13 p.m. to participate in a free, remote viewing of the historical drama "The Poet" (dir. Vytautas V. Landsbergis, Giedrius Tamoševičius, 2022) and a seminar with the film's director, Giedrius Tamoševičius.
Expelled from the Writers' Union of the Lithuanian SSR for his anti-Soviet literature, the talented poet Kostas is forced to cooperate with the Soviet security structures. He is sent to a small town to work as a teacher. The real task of the writer is to befriend the local guerrillas and betray their identities and whereabouts. Seeing the courage and determination of the partisans, but being increasingly pressured by the security forces, Kostas feels he is in an unsolvable dilemma: whether to listen to the voice of his heart or to betray the partisans and become a famous and valued writer of the nation. The film is based on the biographical stories of Kostos Kubilinskis and other post-war personalities.
The film is especially relevant for students in grades 9-12.
After the screening, there will be a meeting with the director of the film, Giedris Tamoševičius, who will tell about the creative process of the film, examine the themes and issues revealed in the film, and help prepare for an independent discussion of the film with the students. We will be waiting for your questions during the remote seminar.
