"Whoever saves one life saves the world." It's a phrase from the Koran and the legendary film Schindler's List, but it's also perfectly suited to the true-life biographical drama One Life. We will see Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins in the lead role, alongside Oscar nominees Helen Bonham Carter, Jonathan Pryce and Lena Olin. This is a heart-wrenching story about Briton Nicholas Winton, who saved the lives of 669 Jewish children, which is truly worthy of all the big movie screens...
"The most important thing for me was to tell the story down to earth, as simply as possible. Because that's what Nikolas himself was - he didn't consider himself a hero. It's a very emotional story, so respect for what we do with it, how we draw it and show it, was just as important. She didn't need any extra drama at all - she's incredibly beautiful as she really is," says director James Hawes.
He says that from the beginning he dreamed that Anthony Hopkins would agree to play the main role.
"He is a very sensitive, emotional person who is no stranger to respect for history. I was convinced that only he would be able to correctly convey the true heroism of Nicol Winton, maintaining seriousness, hiding personal emotions. When you see the tape, you will understand that Anthony was the perfect choice," the filmmaker is convinced.
The drama "One Life" will tell a true story from the 50s, when Nicholas Winton (actor A. Hopkins) finds among long-forgotten papers a book he started XNUMX years ago, in which the names of children were written...
Here lies and begins the extraordinary story of his feat.
Even after half a century, Nikolas himself does not think that he has done something special. The man only regrets that he was not able to help more people, he was not able to save even more unfortunate children. And only after meeting people who most likely would not have survived without his help, Nikolas can finally forgive himself.
