Lucius (played by Paul Mescal), grandson of the former Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius and son of Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen), lives a quiet life until Roman soldiers led by General Acacius (played by Pedro Pascal) kidnap and sell Lucius into slavery. Inspired by the famous Roman army general and peerless gladiator Maximus, Lucius decides to fight as a gladiator in order to destroy the power of the young emperors Caracalla and Geta. Rage is his gift. And he will unpack it in the grandest temple Rome has ever built, the Colosseum, an arena that turns slaves into gladiators and gladiators into free men.
