Three years after her mother's death, eleven-year-old Karina suffers another blow - her abusive father leaves her to live with her grandfather, a Buddhist monk. In the temple, they also live with the ghost cat Andzu - an ironic, mischievous, but kind-hearted creature. Overwhelmed by melancholy over her father's actions and the loss of her mother, Karina travels to the afterlife with Andzu, hoping to find a way to resurrect her mother.
