Together with the Kaunas City Municipality Public Health Office, we encourage you to get to know yourself better through film. During this screening, we invite you to watch the drama "Memory", which talks about addictions, the past and family. After the screening, psychologist Giedrė Starkevičiūtė will introduce the audience to the basics of film therapy and help them prepare to analyze the film by assessing their own inner experiences and emotions.
Silvija, a social worker, has not tasted a drop of alcohol for 13 years - since her daughter was born. A woman's routine and safe everyday life is disrupted by a meeting with the school program, from which she is followed home by a lost bearded man, Sol. This confrontation and new connections not only encourage Silvia to look back on her complicated past, but also to take a closer look at her life. Maneuvering between taking care of Sol, family pains and a daughter who is not afraid to ask uncomfortable questions, Silvia slowly begins to enjoy the present and at the same time relive the past.
Mexican director Michel Franco's film "Memory" confirms how versatile this creator can be. If in the past he did not shy away from more radical social criticism and even depicted a revolutionary dystopia in his native country ("New Order"), this time the director is much more moderate. Franco focuses on two complicated, yet hopeful people, played by none other than Oscar winner Jessica Chastain (Among the Stars) and Venice Best Actor Peter Sarsgaard (Jacqueline). . Their masterful acting makes Franco's job easier to ask with a penetrating, sensitive and even witty gaze: what does it mean to remember too much, and what does it mean to remember almost nothing?
During the events, we present to the citizens a program of free movie screenings accompanied by presentations, discussions and therapeutic conversations about emotional well-being by psychologists and mental health specialists. The program consists of films dealing with overcoming anxiety and illness, experiencing crises, suicides themes of survival, relationships and self-discovery.
The activities of the project are organized by the public health office of the Kaunas City Municipality, implementing the activities of the Kaunas City Suicide Prevention Model.
