Joe, a naive and inexperienced cowboy-clad blonde from Texas, decides to quit his job as a dishwasher and seek happiness in New York, where he intends to use his only talent - sleeping with single, wealthy women for money. After meeting Ratso, a homeless man who talks non-stop about his new life in Florida, Joe is happy to finally find a manager. The friends take up residence in an abandoned building and make a living from Rats's pickpocketing trade. British New Wave director John Shlesinger, who decided to film JL Herlihy's novel about the love of two men, saw something more universal in it: characters feverish with the American dream, the crisis of the 7s in New York, themes of friendship and sexual identity. Infused with light sadness, Midnight Cowboy won the Oscar for Best Picture and gave us an unforgettable version of the hit song Everybody's Talkin'. Today, this film is considered a classic of queer cinema.
Evening screenings of film classics are organized with the "Skalvija" film center.
