Having lived her entire life in Tangier, on Malaga Street, Maria learns that her daughter has decided to sell her house. The woman resists her daughter's decision in the most unexpected ways to preserve her place, her memories, and her independence, and rediscovers love and life's inspirations.
The third feature film in Spanish by Moroccan director Maryam Touzani ("The Blue Kaftan") invites viewers on a sensual and gently humorous journey. Spanish cinema legend Carmen Maura, who has starred in Pedro Almodóvar's films, plays the sweet, yet cunning and unyielding Maria. Her heroine rebels with all her being against the societal perception that mothers and fathers must fulfill all the wishes of their adult children and make sacrifices for them until the end of their lives. "The Street of Malaga" is a moving reminder that passion, dreams and dignity should be taken for granted in old age.
