VIDEO MASK IN ROMUVA: Twelve Monkeys

Original language: English, French, Latin, Spanish, German

12 Monkeys

The film will be presented by Rolandas Maskoliūnas, author of "Videokaukas", fantasy enthusiast, doctor of biological sciences.

Prisoner James Cole (Bruce Willis) is sent back in time to find the origin of a virus and save humanity. But time travel is not always accurate, and Cole must grapple not only with confusing circumstances but also with doubts about his own sanity. While searching for clues about the mysterious "Army of the Twelve Monkeys," he encounters eccentric patient Jeffrey Goins (Brad Pitt) and Dr. Riley (Madeleine Stowe), who herself begins to question what is reality and what is madness. The tense journey through time leads Cole closer and closer to a grim truth that may be more terrifying than he expected.

Twelve Monkeys is an original exploration of the threat of pandemics, the paradoxes of time, and the fragility of collective consciousness. Its unique visual style and existential themes remain relevant against the backdrop of technology, societal anxiety, and global challenges.

“Videokaukas at Romuva” is the continuation of a science fiction film cycle that first appeared on television a few decades ago, now reborn in a new format — on the big screen. As in the legendary TV show, audiences of “Videokaukas at Romuva” will be welcomed by Rolandas Maskoliūnas. The introductions before each screening will explore science fiction as a thought experiment: how this genre reflects reality, why it matters, and how it evolves. And how it helps not only philosophers to grasp the essence and value of humanity.
