Free series of Polish film screenings "Sarmatian Warlords" with lectures

in Kaunas until 2024 November 16 The exhibition "Sarmatian Warriors" is open at the Vytautas Great War Museum. In cooperation with the Lviv Museum of History and the Adam Mickiewicz Institute (IAM), the exhibition presents museum exhibits from the time of the Republic of the Two Peoples. The exhibition aims to show the traditions of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and to reveal the solidarity, harmony and communality of the nations, as well as to introduce the period of prosperity of both countries.

The exhibition is accompanied by various cultural events. From 2024 from September to November, three free historical film screenings and film presentations will take place at the Kaunas Film Center "Romuva".

"what" - an engaging, contemporary, action-packed and emotional universal story about people who overcome their prejudices and differences in pursuit of freedom and equality. At the Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia, the film won the Golden Lions and 8 other awards, and the director Paweł Maślona won the Passport Award from Polityka Weekly. 

 

"The flood. Rebirth" was shown in cinemas exactly 40 years after the premiere of the film based on the book by Henryk Sienkiewicz. On the basis of the restored and digitized film, the original version of which lasts almost six and a half hours, a version was created, which is a kind of concentrate of one of the best works of Polish cinematography. 

"Mr. Tad" tells about the hope that the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte briefly ignited in the hearts of Poles to defeat the aggressor Russia and regain their country. The film is a screen adaptation of Adam Mickiewicz's epic, directed by Oscar winner Andrzej Wajda.

Sessions will take place on September 17, October 22 and November 19 at 17:30 p.m. The films will be presented by film researcher dr. Anna Railienė-Mikonis (Literature, Culture and Translation Research Institute of Vilnius University).

All films are highly appreciated by the audience, their directors are famous, experienced creators of the world of cinema, and the subject matter is extremely suitable for the current historical context.

The film's narratives complement the exhibition presenting the famous warlords and rulers of the Republic of the Two Peoples, which exhibits 200 authentic XNUMXth and XNUMXth century. artifacts collected from fifteen Ukrainian, Polish and Lithuanian museums.
