Past Lives

During VMU Asia Week, the Kaunas Film Center "Romuva" invites you to discover four bright films: Wim Wenders' poetic film "Great Days" (Japan), Davy Chou's personal identity search drama "Return to Seoul" (France, South Korea), Hirokazu Kore- "Monster" (Japan) and Celine Song's lyrical love story "Past Lives" (South Korea, USA) have a sensitive story that you can unravel for yourself.

You are blindly in love, and your crush... emigrates to another continent. How will you act?

Twelve years had to pass before Hae Sung, who remained in South Korea, dared to look for his love who had gone to Canada. It turns out she changed her name and set goals worthy of New York skyscrapers. Is there room for feelings between them? The heroes of this modern romantic, dreamy and tearfully authentic film finally meet for one fateful week. At the end of it, the concepts of love and destiny, as well as roots and ambitions, have to be reconsidered.

Director Celine Song (b. 1988 in South Korea) emigrated to Canada as a teenager, and in 2014 entered Columbia University in New York to study drama. Both the debut play of this artist for the theater and the script of the first feature-length feature are based on her own biography. Past Lives premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlinale.
