Little mom

Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Woman on Fire, 2019, Cinema Spring) tells a universal and poetic story of loss, memory, wonder and imagination through the eyes of a girl. Neli has just lost her beloved grandmother and is helping her parents clean up her mother's childhood home. While exploring the house and woods where her mother Marion used to play, Neli meets a girl her age building a hideout. Her name is also Marion. Creating dialogue between generations, the film fulfills the dream of many to meet and befriend their parents at a young age.

"Little Mama" unfolds like a fairy tale, wrapped in warm autumn melancholy. With difficult subjects, she gently rests on the shoulders of resilient young characters. Surrounded by the timelessness of nature, Sciamma's precise direction directs the gaze to the curious wonder of a child as he steps into stoic adulthood. With its minimalist form and whisper of existential truths, the film speaks to different generations and creates a bright picture of mourning and memory, uplifting and comforting us by touching the boundaries of life and death."
